ALES(Akademik Personel ve Lisansüstü Eğitimi Giriş Sınavı)
ALES is a Turkish academic personnel and post-graduate (Mater’s and PhD) education entrance exam. This exam is usually not asked from those who wishes to enrol in non-thesis master’s programs. This test is for the students who finished their undergraduate education in Turkey or who’s undergraduate certificate is equivalent to the Turkish one, whether the applicant is Turkish or a foreigner. All public universities and some private ones as well ask for the ALES result as an admission requirement. This exam is valid for only 3 years. İt is organized twice a year in November and March by The Turkish Measurement, Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM).
The ALES exam has 2 parts:
Linguistic/Verbal: This part has 2 sections:
Linguistic 1 – 40 questions
Linguistic 2 – 40 questions
Mathematical/Numerical: This part also has 2 sections:
Mathematics 1 – 40 questions
Mathematics 2 – 40 questions
As seen above this exam consists of 4 tests, each student must answer 3 of them which is a total of 120 questions in 180 minutes.
Every university sets its own required grade, although 50% is the minimum. it shouldn’t be forgotten that 4 incorrect answers remove 1 right answer.
Previous years solved question papers
Some Turkish universities accept students with international certificates of GRE, GAT or GMAT scores instead of ALES. And these international certificates are normally for those who finished their undergraduate studies outside Turkey.
